WHAT TO EXPECT

WHAT TO EXPECT
It Starts with a Single Step
At Kim's Taekwondo Center, we believe that Taekwondo is more than just a physical practice - it also has important mental and spiritual components. Through the practice of Taekwondo, students can develop focus, self-discipline, and a sense of inner peace. We are committed to helping our students achieve true mastery, which is a life-long journey.
School VISIT

If you're interested in joining our community, we invite you to visit our Dojang during an active class to observe our instruction and have a meeting with Master Kim. During this meeting, Master Kim will discuss your goals and answer any questions you may have.

PRIVATE LESSONS

All new students receive a traditional Dobok (uniform) and belt with our school's logo. They also start with a series of private one-on-one lessons with Master Kim to learn basic school expectations, standard techniques, and terminology. This stage typically includes several lessons, but the length can vary depending on the student's progress. Once a student is ready, they will be invited to join regular classes.

Join us at Kim's Taekwondo Center to start your journey towards physical, mental, and spiritual growth. We are dedicated to supporting you every step of the way.

Multiple classes daily. Each designed to build a supportive and productive training environment.

After your one-on-one onboarding classes, you will be ready to join daily classes. While classes are tailored based on belt level and age – we are flexible – especially with families and siblings who want to train together.

LITTLE TIGERS

Kids as young as 4 build self-confidence, learn respect and develop life long skills and memories. Our instructors have extensive experience engaging and motivating younger students to develop their potential. To encourage life-long skill development, we teach our younger students to follow the "10 Commandments of Responsibility"

1. Obey Parents and Grandparents
2. Cooperate with Brothers and Sisters
3. Do Chores around the House
4. Keep Body, Hair, and Teeth Clean
5. Eat and Sleep Properly
6. Don't Interrupt Adult Conversations
7. Do Homework as a First Priority
8. Respect Teachers and Elders
9. Be Truthful and Honest
10. Always Finish What's Started

FAMILY CLASSES

The family that kicks together, sticks together. At Kim's Taekwondo having a friendly, family-oriented atmosphere is what we pride ourselves in. Family rates are available!

TEEN & ADULT

Unlike any programmed, machine-like routine, our Adult Taekwondo program allows for a more dynamic and energetic class. No age is "too old" to be healthy. No life is "too busy" to start on your goals today.

SELF DEFENSE

A big part of martial arts is self-defense. While all classes incorporate self-defense training, our school Rules of Self Defense require students to avoid conflict first.

YONG MOO-DO

Yong Moo Do is a Korean martial art developed at Yong-In University, S. Korea. It combines the dynamic kicking of Taekwondo, as well as the grappling of Judo, Hapkido, Jiu-Jitsu and many other martial arts. "Nak-bop," or the theory of how to fall, is an integral part of this training. It allows the practitioner to fall down without injury.

WEAPONS

Learn to master the art of Gumdo (sword), staff, nun chucks and much more through our world-class instructors! Better your dexterity, concentration, balance and hand-eye coordination in a safe and exciting way.

Testing & Belt Promotion

Like all martial arts, progression in Taekwondo is marked by the wearing of colored belts that signify a student’s place on their journey. Moving up a belt rank requires a demonstration of skill and knowledge in front of a group of Black Belts and instructors.

All tests are conducted at the main school in Blaine, MN.

What to expect at a test:

  • Warm Up and Drills
  • Performing Basic and Taeguek Patterns (Poomse)
  • One Step & Self Defense appropriate for your belt level
  • A board breaking demonstration
  • Understanding of terminology, appropriate for your age and level.
COMPETITION
A long history of
Competitive Excellence

Kim's Taekwondo competes in multiple tournaments throughout the year at the local, state and national level. If you're looking to really challenge yourself mentally and physically, participating in Taekwondo tournaments is the way to go.

POOMSE (품새) TEAM

Poomse (Patterns) is a form of moving meditation, with practitioners demonstrating a series of techniques in a specific sequence. Our schools' strong connection to Kukkiwon and Korea ensures our students learn the techniques needed to compete at the highest level.

Gyeorugi ( 겨루기 ) TEAM

Sparring is a form of training common to many combat sports, and Taekwondo is no exception. WT Sparring consists of two opponents attempting to score points by landing kicks and punches in key areas. Kim's Taekwondo Sparring team is consistently among the most successful in the state.
